Garner Pics!

Our campsite!

The dogs chasing sticks in the water behind our campsite.

Charlie swimming! Doesn't quite have the doggie paddle down yet, more of a flailing motion :)
Charlie hiked all the way to the top of the "mountain" with G and Me.

The hiking trails...

Family pic halfway up. Someone needs to invest in "hipper" sunglasses....and it's not G.

Pretty Frio river. It was FREEZING though!

Handsome boy.

Charlie loved looking our the tent in the mornings.

Proud little longhorn stole my chair!

Charlie in between rainstorms...he figured out where the tent would zip :)

Finally out of the rain and in our new sleeping situation due to the leakage!

Camp Anawanna...we hold you in our hearts....

Garner was so awesome! It was so relaxing, a perfect 3 night, 4 day break from work, Austin, etc. It was gorgeous the entire time we were there, minus the last night. It poured. I'm talking torential downpour, worried about flooding pour. Ok, maybe not the flooding part but you get my drift. We got there on Saturday, set up our tents (after not getting our spot due to a meth addict that was "camping" in her truck and had lost her cat - thats' another story) went driving around to see the entire place, and relaxed. Monica and Tim got there later that evening and we cooked dinner and just sat around the bon fire. Sunday we got up and hiked, took the dogs to the water, played plenty of cornhole and hung out. Monday we did about the same, with a little more hiking down by our own campsite where the river was more shallow and the dogs could run around easier. Charlie actually swam in the Frio! I was so proud of him, we bought him a $15 water toy and thought maybe he'd chase that into the river. Nope, he wanted sticks more than anything and actually went into water over his head and had to swim out several times.

Like I mentioned before, Monday night it POURED. We knew there was a chance of rain so we picked up everything off of our picnic table that shouldn't get wet and waiting out teh first little bit of rain. Once that ended we all though, "Hey, that wasn't so bad" and continued cooking dinner and drinking and having a great time. Little did we know that was the least of it. We had just finished dinner and the skies literally opened up and poured on us. The ground had water standing all over it, there was mud everywhere and we learned that the zipper door on our tent leaks! Charlie was already zipped in the tent when the rain started and had to wait out the storm by himself in there while G, Tim, Justin and I huddled under the canopy above the picnic table. Hindsight, standing under a canopy with metal legs probably wasn't the smartest thing to do in a lightning storm. Courtney and Lexie ran to her car and Monica and Lucy went into their car. (Lexie and Lucy are dogs...)

Anyways, the rain finally let up, I use that term lightly, around 9pm and we all made mad dashes to the rest room adn into our tents for an early, wet night :(

Back to the leak: Our tent leaks around the zipper in the door. I got into the tent first, made sure Charlie was OK adn then realized that there was water around the opening. Ugh. So I took ALL of our dirty clothes, towels, a sheet and then some clean towels and made a dam in front of the door. Then G and I turned our sleeping bags horizontally so that we would be further away from the door and slept with Charlie's little head between us. It was horrible, but was definitely an experience which I hope we don't have to go through again! Everything was fine, I was just upset because it was our last night camping, we were all having a great time and had a goal of getting rid of our beer...which didnt' happen. Just means that we'll have to take it camping again soon and finish it off then!

March...thus far

So, apparently I started this blog to post about my puppy but haven't been very good about doing so lately. Charlie has been great, wonderful, etc! He's just so much fun and makes us laugh a ton every day. I LOVE him and am so happy we have him in our lives. Here are a couple of pics from March, just random and not all too exciting :)

Just thought Charlie looked sweet in this picture :)

Sleeping puppy - looks like he's smiling while he dreams :)

And apparently the flash wakes him up!

Charlie and his best bud Bailey!

Poor giraffe doesn't have any fluff in him anymore...he's flat as a board!
Found the fluff!

Guilty little face...

Smiling for his peanut butter!

Mmmm! Had to give this to Charlie when I left for work this morning. G was on a conference call and I didn't want Charlie to cry!

Imma Be...Continued!

Here are some pictures from our trip to Arizona. I can't BELIEVE that it was 2 weeks ago today that Carrie and I surprised Kelsey out there. Time definitely goes by too fast :)

Some killer cacti!

Crazy Dog, Drew!

Bunnies outside of the hotel!
Shopping in Scottsdale - it was sunny and my left eye wasn't open. :(
Camelback mountain...look closely, you can see the profile of a camel. Promise!

One of MANY self-timer pictures!
We always do a "jumping" picture...this didn't work out so well!
Kels and her "Texas Ranger" badge and fishbowl drink!
Out at the club...I'll give you one guess who's never tanning again!!!!
Practicing Kelsey's wedding hair! (With her awesome living room painting in the background)
Also practiced the bump-it look (sans bump-it) because that's apparently all the hype in Scottsdale! New wedding hairstyle?
Carrie "borrowing" some oranges on the way to the airport. Arizona randomly has tons of citrus trees all over the place. Makes sense in the desert, right?!

So excited to see Kels and Chris again in 3ish weeks for their wedding!!!

Happy Little Campers!

I can't tell you how excited/happy/STOKED I am about this weekend/week. We're going camping with Court, Justin and Lexie and then Court's best friend and her husband and dog. We're going to be gone tomorrow through Tuesday. This means 4 days of relaxing, being outside, spending time with great friends and family, no computers, reading books, going hiking, getting Charlie to love going into the water, campfires, beer, taking pictures, sleeping in tents outside, s'mores and so much more! I absolutely love camping. I love how care free and laid back it is...it'll be a nice break out of the office for sure!
I am 100%certain that I will have about 200 new pictures when we get back from camping this weekend :) Be prepared! I'll leave you with a quote:

“I got into an argument with a girlfriend inside of a tent. That's a bad place for an argument, because then I tried to walk out and slammed the flap. How are you supposed to express your anger in this situation? Zipper it up really quick?” - Mitch Hedberg

Recurring Theme: Poo

Disclaimer: I'm only telling this story because a co-worker of mine told me to write about it after telling her the story yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday G had to go to Oklahoma for work. His flight was around 4 p.m. so I gladly volunteered to take him to the airport. I ran home from work, threw on some jeans and a t-shirt, grabbed Charlie and we all headed out the door to drop G off at the airport. G got an email or something on the way to the airport letting him know his flight was delayed so we decided to pull over and walk Charlie for a little bit because, well bluntly, he had been farting in the car the entire drive and it was very apparent he had something he needed to get out. So anyways, we pull over near the Waffle House and walk him around in the grass near some hotel that looked empty. Charlie's been having some "non-solid" poos lately and this one wasn't any different. I did my best to pick it up with a baggie, then found a trashcan and got back in the car. Charlie was sitting on G's lap the rest of the way to the airport and randomly G stated, "If Charlie leaves a brownish yellow poo streak on my shirt I'm gonna be pissed!" I just laughed because obviously that wouldn't happen. Wouldn't you know it...after NOT knocking on wood, Charlie jumped off of G's lap and on G's shirt was a little brownish yellow poo mark! I couldn't help it, I started cracking up because G was holding his shirt out just staring at the little smear of poo. Charlie was now perched on the towel on my lap looking at G as he was silently cursing and trying to get an extra shirt out of his suitcase. At this point we were already going around the circular drive at the Austin airport and G was changing shirts, Charlie was trying to jump back into his lap, I was cracking up while trying to drive and hold onto Charlie and finally pulled up to the SW drop off. I told G, between stiffled laughs, to just wash it in the sink at the hotel with warm water and soap...so off G went with his poo-shirt in his suitcase to Oklahoma for work.

The end - Go eat some dinner or something now that I'm sure your appetite has grown.

Pile o' Sticks

I promise that a picture post will come soon...problem is, I can't get my memory card to upload pictures onto my work computer anymore :) Therefore, I have to do it from home!

So anyways. Two Sunday nights ago I flew home from Phoenix, got in around 11 p.m. and was exhausted from the long weekend. I pretty much passed out right away and woke up to Charlie crying around 4 a.m. G wasn't budging so I sat up in bed, looked at Charlie and realized he was dry heaving. So I grabbed him, realized we weren't going to make it outside and set him on the kitchen TILE floor. Well a couple of dry heaves later Charlie takes off running behind the couch and pukes. So I run to get the carpet cleaner and a rag, Charlie runs off to the other corner and pukes AGAIN. Long story short, each of these pukes has sticks and wood in them and he ends up throwing up 6 times within about an hour and a half. :( Poor baby. I was freaking out because Carrie and I had just talked about how her vet or someone told her to not let Bailey eat sticks bc they can get lodged in their throats, intestines, etc and that sticks can potentially pierce a dog's stomach lining causing them to bleed on the inside.

So I finally fall back to sleep for a little bit, call the vet and explain to her that my dog has thrown up 6 times in the past couple of hours and that all of the pukes had sticks in them. She got very stern and said, "You need to bring him in, that is not good at all." Ughhhhhh. This just freaked me out even more so I threw on some clothes and Garett and I took him in. They said they wanted to keep him so that they could monitor him and do some xrays and bloodwork if needed. We ended up picking him up around 3:15 p.m. and were told that his colon was completely full, they did xrays and nothing was too large to not pass, and they did a fecal float and it was FULL of sticks and bacteria so they were putting Charlie on an antibiotic for 5 days and for us to just keep an eye on him. So, $255 later our little puppy had 5 pills and was apparently going to be OK :( You know the saying, "Live & Learn." Doesn't apply to dogs because that very night when we went outside Charlie decided to try and eat every stick and leaf in sight. All I can say is, that can't feel good coming out the other end.

Imma Be, Imma Be, Imma Imma Imma Be!

This past weekend I put together a surprise trip for myself and Carrie, one of my best friends from elementary school to go and fly out and surprise another best friend, Kelsey, from elementary as a somewhat "bachelorette party" weekend. I have been emailing back and forth with Kelsey's fiance for the past couple of months and have been looking at hotels and trying to put together an itinerary. With my meeting going two weeks ago I didn't have a ton of time to really focus and think about how much FUN we were going to have - I just knew that everything was planned and we'd have a great time. Oh my gosh, let me tell you. I just LOVE how I can get together with best friends that haven't been all together for a while and have everything just fall right back where we left off. I just feel so comfortable around these 2 girls and it's like we never miss a beat even though we only get to see each other at MAX 3 times a year.
Anyways, Friday Carrie and I left Austin and landed in Phoenix at about 2pm. Kelsey's fiance picked us up from the airport and took us back to their house where we got settled, made the guest bed, hung out and planned our big surprise! Oh, and Carrie put on some perfume. (This will be important later.) Anyways, we decided to hide behind the kitchen island because Kels would come through the garage door, walk down the hallway and turn into the "grand room" facing the island perfectly. We thought we'd hear the garage door open but Kels was extremely stealth for some reason in her arrival to the house and we only heard the keys in the garage door. Carrie and I freaked out, ran to the island and ducked while Chris leaned awkwardly on the bar with a glass of water in his hand. (He was going to tap my head when Kels arrived for our sign.) So she walks through the door after we fratically duck behind the island, states that "It smells really nice in here, did you clean???" (carrie's perfume) then turned the corner and we jumped up and yelled "SURPRISE." The look on her face was priceless. We caught it on camera - oh wait, no we didn't :) Long story short, Chris made fun of me for explaining to him twice how to work the flip, only to misuse the Flip for the actual surprise. Haha.
Anyways, Kels dropped her bags, had a huge smile on her face and didn't really know what to say. When we were all standing around a little while later she explained it as "confusion." Carrie and I were VERY familiar and of course her house is VERY familiar but the two things put together were not familiar at all....it was a hard concept to grasp at the time.
So that night we went and got drinks and hung out and went and got dinner at this cute little restaurant where Kels and Chris like to go and then we went back to their house and watched home movies that Kels got for X-mas from her mom. They were sooo funny and so much fun to see - definitely kept us up laughing and remembering good times until about midnight!
The next morning we got up, went and got some breakfast at another CUTE place that Kels and Chris go to every Sunday morning, then showered and left for Scottsdale!!! I had booked us a room at the Westin Kierlands and we arrived to a beautiful resort with mountains all around, cactus (squarrel and cholla) and little bunnies hopping in the green grass. Seriously, there were little bunnies and I wanted to take them home with me.
Anyways, we checked in then headed out to the shops close by for some wedding attire shopping as our goal. Kelsey got her entire rehearsal dinner outfit (including an awesome "statement necklace") and belt. We had lunch at a cute little place there, shopped some more and I ended up buying some stuff that I probably did not need. Story of my life.
After shopping we headed back to the hotel, changed, got ready and took some classic self-timer shots before heading to the bar for pre-drink drinks. We got the best dirty martinis I think I've ever had at a bar called "The Rim" in the Westin. Then we took a shuttle to a restaurant called "Ra" for sushi and a giant fishbowl drink...mmmmm..... During dinner it started to POUR! Yes, POUR in the desert in Arizona. Apparently they've been having lots of rain lately, which is unheard of, but I didnt' expect the tsunami that hit us later that evening.
After dinner we hitched a cab to a club called "The Devil's Martini" where we met lots of interesting people (thanks to Carrie), danced the night away and made some really great memories. It's so funny because whenever Carrie drinks, or doesn't drink, she likes to meet new people. So I opened a bar tab and Carrie was the one running to get us refills. Every time she'd come back to the dancefloor she'd have met a new person. We never learned any of their names, just where they were from. When the night ended we had a ton of new "friends" including (but not limited to) Seattle, New York, Arizona, and Las Vegas. There was also a balding rugby player wearing a kilt that referred to himself as "The wall." Carrie thought it'd be a good idea to tell him that that was my nickname back in the soccer playing days...aparently "the wall" thought that meant we should be lifelong friends and wouldn't leave us alone. For some reason our theme song of the entire trip was "Imma Be" so near the end of the night we told Carrie to go request it from the DJ. Basically he just looked at her and said, "NO, I'm not playing that again" and continued to play "Pants on the Ground." We ended up heading back to the dance floor where we closed down the club. They turned the lights on, which REALLY confused us at the time, and told us to leave.
Back to the hotel we went, via cab in the pouring rain, and got to the hotel where we again decided to try out the self-timer and take tons of pictures. These self-timed pictures definitely look different from the ones we took before going out :)
Middle of the night (actually I think it was 6am) Kelsey got up to go to the bathroom. Somehow she got lost in our room (I give her credit, it was a suite) and ended up in the closet. She was banging around so much that it woke me up. I sat up in bed, saw her standing in the closet and then heard her exclaim, "I'm sooo confused. I really have to peeee." I got up & showed her where the bathroom was. Apparently at this time I fell back asleep for an amount of time that all of us are unsure of, but was woken up AGAIN by Kelsey coming in the side door of the bedroom, hitting the wall and saying, "I"M SOOOO CONFUSED." At this time I was pretty confused because I had JUST (again, time passed) shown her where the bathroom was. This time I got up, put my hands on her shoulders, turned on the bathroom light and pushed her towards the toilet. I waited for her outside of the door because I at this point had to go. She came out, I went in. I came out, she was sprawled on my pillow and my side of the bed. (Note: Carrie was in the other room on her own little bed.) So I tapped Kels on the head and told her to move over onto her side of the bed. She laid there and said, "But it's sooo cold over there." This will make sense later. I then fell asleep. The end.
We woke up the next morning and Carrie said, "Man, so when did Kelsey end up in my bed last night?" Kelsey and I were both adament that she had never been in Carrie's bed and that Carrie must have thought that she imagined her being in there before we all went to sleep when we were doing the self-timer pictures. Carrie SWORE that someone had been in her bed because she had kicked them when she got up to pee in the middle of the night. (Which it turns out that Carrie went to the front door and opened that thinking it was the bathroom.) TURNS OUT that Kelsey left the closet on her first bathroom trip, walked into the bathroom and straight out the other door, got confused and realized she was really tired, laid down with Carrie and fell asleep, woke up when Carrie got back from the "bathroom", walked back into my/our room through the other door, hit the wall and was then led to the bathroom by me for the 2nd time. This also explains why her side of the bed was sooo cold - she hadn't been in it for probably an hour. :) So funny! It was like living in a real-life hangover movie where we were putting the bits and pieces back together through a fogged memory.
There are so many other memories from this weekend but it's kind of hard (and probably not appropriate) to share them all...I absolutely love my friends and miss having all of us in the same city. However, it definitely gives us an excuse to travel more and I can't wait to do it again!

A G/PG-rated picture post will follow.

Next Post: Charlie and his ability to eat an entire tree's worth of sticks :(
